The best states for jobs, economic growth … and retirement.

Where is your state on the rich state, poor state list?

The American Legislative Exchange Council weighs all fifty states based on diverse outcomes including taxes, labor laws, and regulatory schemas.

States like Tennessee have jumped significantly higher in job growth following their repeal of the inheritance tax. In general, states with no income tax rank higher overall.

The Ten Best states for business are:

  1. Utah
  2. North Carolina
  3. North Dakota
  4. Wyoming
  5. Arizona
  6. Indiana
  7. Tennessee
  8. Florida
  9. Wisconsin (a first for this state in the Top Ten!)
  10. Oklahoma
