I got this letter from a reader and had to share it with you. It is powerful – read what it says…
I sent your Election Voters Guide to everyone I could think of, including my two children (son, 29 and daughter 27).
When they turned 18, a form to register to vote was on their breakfast bowl. They have voted in every election since then.
Our daughter graduated from USAFA and is now a Captain in the AF. She just wrote something on her Instagram page that I thought you might like. I challenged her to research the district attorneys and judges she was voting for and she used your Guide.
Here’s what she posted today:
Yesterday I was asked to re-administer the oath of office. The magnitude of the words always causes me to pause and reflect, “I solemnly swear to support and defend the Constitution of the United States.” The first sentence of our Constitution has the words “We the People, establish justice, domestic tranquility, common defense and Blessings of Liberty.” The brutal murdering of George Floyd last week espouses none of the aforementioned, it disgraces them. We have a fragile experiment in democracy, the Constitution is a foundation for those who want to be part of this experiment.
One reason I choose to serve is I believe this is a damn good experiment, but when the experiment is wrong we must course correct.
There is a reason the first alteration to our Constitution was the First amendment which includes- the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
It’s fundamental to who we are as Americans.
Experiments aren’t always fast or easy and often require discovery of something we didn’t know before.
We must start by voting, not just General Elections which focus on POTUS.
Vote in every single primary and local election. Of equal importance for our justice system are District Attorneys and local government positions. For the primary, my mom challenged me to research EVERY district attorney on the ballot.
I’m ashamed the first time I did this was at age 27. I was so excited to vote, I waited in line even though I had a mail in ballot.
I left feeling empowered, exactly how voting should feel.
Voting in the General Election is important, but leadership and change come from the top and bottom – federal, state, local. Vote in all. As a person of faith, I will pray and act in love.
God doesn’t give us a recipe for living as a community, but He gives us great ingredients. He gives us everybody, always. If we are going to get right, it’s going to take EVERYBODY to pull it off. It won’t get done in a day or two either. It’s going to take always. (BG) E Pluribus Unum – Together as One
This letter reflects what so many have said about the Voter Guide.
It helps you vote for, not against your values.
It also helps candidates win elections.
But, to do the research, web posting, and more is very expensive.
Can you help by donating $10.00, or more so we can get the November site up and running?
We offer several, convenient options to donate.
You can donate online here. Or, send a check to Election Forum at 1313 4th Avenue North, Nashville, TN 37208. Or, please call Whitney at (615) 814-6633.
