Shocking Religious Freedom Study: Most Americans Favor Less Religious Freedom

Craig Huey Religious Freedom 1 Comment

Religious freedom is fundamental to America…

It’s fundamental to a free society.

It’s why the Pilgrims and Puritans came to America 400 years ago.

It’s enshrined and guaranteed in the First Amendment of the Bill of Rights of our Constitution – the Supreme law of the land.

And yet our First Amendment rights are under attack today as never before in our nation’s history.

Christians are being asked by politicians … educators … judges … and newly-elected legislators … to compromise their beliefs and violate their consciences.

In Elane Photography v. Willock, the New Mexico state Supreme Court upheld a lower court ruling that Elaine and Jonathan Huguenin had violated the state’s anti-discrimination law by declining to photograph a same-sex wedding.

The court equated the Christian couple’s belief that marriage is a sacred God-ordained union between a man and a woman with racism when it said, “When Elane Photography refused to photograph a same-sex commitment ceremony, it violated the [New Mexico Human Rights Act] in the same way as if it had refused to photograph a wedding between people of different races.”

The Washington state Supreme Court ruled unanimously that Barronelle Stutzman discriminated against a same-sex couple for refusing to create floral arrangements for their wedding.

The court told her she must provide flowers for same-sex weddings or stop doing all weddings.

Stutzman said the ruling was “terrifying when you think the government is coming in and telling you what to think and what to do.”

Just as terrifying – if not more so – is the lack of outcry or even concern from the Christian community over these incidents of assault on religious freedom.

During a 5-year Barna study, both Christians and non-Christians were asked if they agreed or disagreed with this definition of religious freedom:

“True religious freedom means that all citizens must have freedom of conscience, which means being able to believe and practice the core commitments and values of your faith.”

Seems simple enough.

In 2012, only 3% of practicing Christians and 7% of all adults disagreed with the definition.

But by 2017, 9% of practicing Christians and 10% of all adults disagreed.

What’s so shocking and disturbing is that the percentage of Christians who changed their view of religious freedom TRIPLED in 5 years!

Also, the percentage of practicing Christians who “Agree Strongly” with the Constitution-based definition of religious freedom dropped from 78% to 62% during the same period.

It seems clear from this study that an increasing number of “practicing Christians” don’t mind that Christian business owners and employees … teachers and medical professionals … government workers and more are being told they must compromise.

Notice that no one else is being asked to compromise their religious beliefs or their non-belief for the sake of being accommodating of … and non-discriminatory toward … Christians. It’s only the Christians who are being asked to compromise.

  1. Hi Mr Huey,
I am from Northern California and a associate pastor at Victory Chapel (PCG Church) in Live Oak.
But my wife is from India so I live back and forth between Live Oak and India and been involved in minister in India. Over a year ago I was praying in the spirit asking God to use me to help the poor, lowly, oppressed, abandoned ,imprisoned , set the captive free and etc so God gave me a vision of a large group of people to help with smaller groups inside. A couple week later I was at my wife’s church and heard author / investigative journalist Anto Akkara give a presentation regarding the Religious Persecution of Christians in Orissa in 2008 including 7 innocent Christians who were wrongly convicted in a sham trial and imprisoned for killing a Hindu Swami.
Please read online “Release7innocents.com” and watch the 16 minute documentary- “Innocents Imprisoned Kandhamal Travesty of Justice”. God / Holy Spirit spoke to me ans said that these are the people you are to help so after the service I talk with Anto’s assistant Joe who is also one my youngest daughter’s teachers and then I contacted Anto and started working with him by bringing attention to the the 7 Innocents through my Facebook page, helping him with the 10 Anniversary event at the Constitution Club in New Delhi which we released the 16 minute documentary, writing letters and etc including contacting the Family Research Council Tony Perkins / Travis Weber who started working with the ADF Attorneys representing the 7 Innocents and posted two blogs using some of the encouragement and material that I provided- “India’s Opportunity for Religious Freedom” and “Christians Under Fire in India”. But they did leave some important material out about who in India is linked to the Religious Persecution in Orissa . We originally suspect that the RSS, RSS / BJP Ex Ram Madhav, the India Foundation , now Finance Minister Sitharaman and Nationalist Security Adviser used a US Name and Ghost Writers for a report / book they submitted to the US State Department which convinced them to change their conclusion from Christians being the victims to Hindus being the victims including of Western Christian Missionaries. We suspected that because we could not find contact information for the US National Parker and the reported sounded like other RSS propaganda. But in late 2018 I returned to the US to try and get political interest into the 7 Innocents and try to find evidence of Parker. I spend two weeks conducting exhaustive online searched until God lead me to some Hindu videos Parker had posted and videos he made in Orissa interviewing victims, witnesses, suspects, police officers, Hindu Tribal Leaders, advocates, justices, politicians and others linked to the riots in Orissa in 2008/2009. In the recordings he confesses to being Sangh Parivar, working for the RSS / Ram Madhav, their goal was to make Hindus the victims, his report was submitted to the US State Department which convinced them to change their conclusion from Christians being the victims to Hindus being the victims, that the Hindu Tribals / Extremist behind the violence were his heroes, were warriors and their violence was justified because of what Western Christian Missionaries and local Christians were doing and etc.
But then the recordings point to those closest to swami, a police officer, professional killers and Maoist killing the swami .
After finding the videos I found a email address that Parker was using with a alias so I prayed to God and reached out to him and by God’s grace he replied so I started a dialogue with in which he kind of claims to be a Christians but it sounds like he may be believing some kind of pluralism. He was defensive in some of the emails but I convinced him to share a short testimony with me in which he confesses to working with the RSS and Ram Madhav , using RSS offices and equipment in Orissa, writing the report but stating that the RSS changed it including the title, they paid for his travel expenses and lodging, they paid him only $500 for over a years work, that he initiated RSS influence into Tulsi Gabbard’s congressional campaign, that he had a falling out with Ram Madhav and etc. A reporter who has been investigating and reporting on Tulsi’s links to the RSS confirmed it with another RSS / BJP Member and then he asked her about it at a Presidential Campaign Event March 30 in LA but she sidestepped the question.
I am a supporter of President Trump so I contacted the White House but they replied with a generic letter ( I understand Trumps links to the RSS / BJP / Hindu Nationalist which I discovered through this process), I contacted the US State Department but they out it off on the UN, I contacted DOJ / FARA Div. but they said they will take it under advisement, I contacted USCIRF but they ignored me and I contacted Ambassador Brownback who said that they are engaged with India and he has passed some of the material onto Senior Policy Advisers at State.
A couple of weeks ago I reached out to Parker to do a interview with a reporter but he recently declined because the reporter wrote about Rep Tulsi Gabbard. So I reached out to him again because it could help the 7 Innocent Christians and help prove he has repented, his redeemed and lift up the Name of Jesus Christ so he gave me his number and said that we could talk.
Recently a Indian kid “Sunny” / Indian for Trump came across my Facebook so he contacted me by messenger and then by phone and told me part of his testimony including of his family in India being Christians and the evils of the RSS / BJP. He also said that you are aware of the RSS / BJP and Religious Persecution of Christians in India and that you might be interested in our testimonies and fight against Religious Persecution in India and for Justice and Truth for the 7 Innocent Christians.
Would you be interested in joining forces with us in helping fight Religious Persecution in India which also has links to the USA because our current US-India Policy is pro-RSS / BJP / Hindu Nationalist which then turn around and support mostly Democrats / Progressive Politcans in the US who are anti-Christian.
Our politicians have been doing basically nothing to help Christians in India and helping Christians Organizations like Compassion International which was shut down in India for receiving foreign funds to feed India child who have some of the highest malnutrition rates in the world while the RSS / BJP / Hindu Nationalist are transferring all kinds of funds including campaign funds back and forth between the US and India.
    God Bless, Will Rogers
